Underwater Maternity Session

I purchased my underwater housing on a whim.  Underwater images have always captivated me and I wanted to try it.  The *problem* with trying underwater photography is that you need housing that fits your exact camera model and lenses.  Unfortunately, and unbeknownst to me until I started searching, underwater housing is no longer made specifically for my camera, the Nikon D3s.  Renting the housing for a few days at a time was an option, but it was VERY pricey and not practical — what if I fell in love and wanted to shoot underwater on a consistent basis?  There was no point in spending $500+ on equipment rentals for every shoot.  My other option was to sell my camera and buy a new one just so I could buy housing that was currently being made.  Eh, I wasn’t thrilled with that idea as it would involve the exchange of A LOT of money, but also not totally against it.  Photographers love getting new gear after all!  I contacted one of the housing companies and asked if they by chance had any housings left for the D3s and after a few emails, I said YES to purchasing housing for my camera that was being used as a floor model at the company’s store in Australia.  I gave them my credit card information over the phone and a few days later, bam, it arrived on my doorstep.  I opened the box like a kid on Christmas and thought, “Oh geez what did I do?  I hope I like this!!”  I had never even stepped foot in the water with my camera yet and here I am the proud owner of underwater housing.  I firmly believe, sometimes you’ve just got to take the leap when it presents itself.  Sometimes you’ve got to take risks.  And sometimes you’ve got to listen to your gut and your feelings instead of your brain.  Not only was it something that I wanted to try, but it was more than that, it was calling to me.  I am an Aquarius after all and water is my sign.  I love water, the ocean calls me home and grounds me, fills me up with positive energy.  This risk turned out to be one of the best business-related decisions I have ever made.  Being underwater is magical.  The muffled sound, the weightlessness, the moving and living fabric.  Capturing a belly alive with growing life.  Magic upon magic.  Magic in a magical world.
